I very nearly almost missed this when we were ordering. That would have been a travesty as we have sorely missed travelling through the pink and purple landscapes of Junko's psychedelic erotica. Her visuals are reminiscent of Vaughan Bode, her ladies buxom and cute while the men are globules, letches or shallow-eyed simpletons. But while Bode's demented tales lacked heart, Junko's Pelu stories are swimming in more romance and tragedy than the complete works of Hans Christian Anderson. Which is fitting as her previous work included three twisted and original interpretations of fairy tales including Hans' PRINCESS MERMAID.

Pelu is a small fluffy creature from planet Princess Kotobuki, a cute pink world inhabited by beautiful Princess Kotobukians and a carnivorous purple-starred Space Hippo. Pelu is unique amongst the all female Princess Kotobukian race - there's not another quite like him, or so he thinks. Until he learns the bizarre secrets behind the Kotobukians' asexual reproduction: that he is one half of their reproductive organ! Years before, Pelu's friend the Space Hippo caught and ate half of Pelu's Kotobukian host, but refuses to finish the job and eat him despite his fluffy friend's woe. So instead Pelu steals the Hippo's space mirror to travel to Earth to find a mate, convinced that amongst the billions of people here there has to be someone just for him (to make babies with). But Pelu is an innocent fluffy ball of love who doesn't understand the logistics of physical encounters let alone the tragedy of unrequited love. It's erotic tragedy at its fluffiest as Pelu becomes a penniless hobo travelling the world and bearing witness to all the strange and desperate things humans do in the name of love.
