Thrilling subterranean exploration for your HILDA-age young ones. Lots of clever puzzle solving as Milo wins over new allies to help him navigate the ever-darker depths. I've not shown them all!

Light on text, it's driven instead by smooth, easily understood transitions of perspective and discovery - some of the very finest sequential-art storytelling I've ever seen for this age range - as Milo follows the unravelling trail of his sibling's knitted sock. Gorgeous shift in colours for each successively creepy cavern/basement.

Oh Milo! How low will go? And how will you find your winding way back? Will Mom still be there? A whopping 220 pages, I've just scratched the surface.

And so has Milo.

Hatke created the ZITA SPACE GIRL trilogy, also beyong fabulous and reviewed.

The publisher writes:

"It was supposed to just be a normal basement-some storage boxes, dust, you know, the usual basement stuff. But when Milo is sent by his mother to fetch a sock from the basement of the historic home they've moved into, he finds a door in the back that he's never seen before. Turns out that the basement of his house is enormous. In fact, there is a whole world down there. As Milo travels ever deeper into the Basement World, he meets the many Things that live in the shadows and gloom... and he learns that to face his fears he must approach even the strangest creatures with kindnesss."
