The sorry saga of the destruction of the rare, rolling chalk downlands outside Winchester in 1992/93, its chalk hills carved up for our six-lane, black bitumen, transportational convenience; but also, the emergence of environmental protest in Britain, camping on the site of destruction which, let's be clear, is always six times larger than the area of construction (in this case, a motorway).

V. stirring stuff, but I sorely wish this was all comics. I can easily envisage 'The Autonomous Territory of the Twyford Down Dongas' manifesto receiving the same lush, lyrical illumination as Bird's elegy for THE GREAT NORTH WOOD, so I hope this will all be comics one day. Go on publishers, email Tim Bird! The subject demands it.
